5th Graders’ End of School Party

The tradition for 5th graders is to go to the cabana club at the end of the year for their celebration.  The party was held last Wednesday and I signed up to volunteer.  It was very hot that day and it was perfect for a pool party.  I arrived earlier to help set up, and the classes walked from school to the club by 9:30am.  All the kids had to take a swim test quickly before the party began.  There were a few games available (2 squares, limbo, hula hoop and pinana), but most kids were in the water to play.  There were also many snacks available all day, popcorns, snow cones, cotton candies and churros.  Logan was hanging around Maxim and his few other friends the whole time; I saw them alternating between snacking and swimming.  There was a photo booth; I was able to convince Logan and Maxim to go over for a picture, and to have Logan take a picture with me too.  For lunch, everyone enjoyed pizza.

It was such a hot day that I was tired by early afternoon.  Since the need of volunteers was winding down and I did have to go to work briefly, I got permission from the parent organizer to leave earlier.  By then, Logan also felt that he had enough swimming, he had put his shirt and shoes back on.  He was going to just hang and watch his friends instead.  He said goodbye to me, and I returned home to take a shower before going to work.

Logan as well as all the 5th graders seemed to have an awesome day, and hope to have this special day as part of the fond memory of their elementary years.

Open House

The open house was on the same night as the graduation at the martial arts.  So we had to rush after class over to the school for the open house.  We stopped by Logan’s class first; we walked around seeing other students’ science projects and looked at Logan’s other school work.  Then we headed to Connor’s class.  We had heard from Connor about some group projects he had with a few classmates, and we finally got to see them on the board.  Lastly, we walked over to the superdome for the art show, and found the boys’ art work.  Everything in there was very nice.  Now with this open house behind us, the school year is really ending soon.

Purple Belts

It was a graduation at martial arts on Tuesday, and the boys were testing to advance to purple belts.  I was able to rush there afterward and joined Stuart to watch.  This class felt quite long as many kids were graduating as well and the instructor talked a bit too much.  Finally our boys did their moves and they did great.  The instructors gave them feedback, then the boys earned their new belts.  They will now advancing to the junior classes.

Logan’s Science Project

Logan spent time over the Memorial Weekend working on his science project.  The initial project topic Logan picked required a chemical that we could not find, so Stuart offered him a few alternative suggestions and Logan chose a new one.  For the week prior and this weekend, Stuart guided Logan and offered suggestions; Logan worked hard on it.  At the end, Logan was very proud of this project, and it was being showed at the school open house.
