Transition

It has been hard dropping off Connor in the mornings.  After arriving at school, Connor is still happy as usual while walking to his classroom and dropping off his belongings.  We march together to the morning drop off room, but as soon as we arrive at the door, Connor stops and does not want to walk inside.  He immediately will start sobbing and burying his head in my shoulder.  He will not lift his head at all for me to say anything to him; the teacher eventually will take him away from me.  Connor will continue to cry very sadly and I will just have to say goodbye and leave quickly to shorten the agony.  Throughout the day, the teacher however has been reporting that Connor is doing great, and the report card said that he was either “happy” or “happy most of the day”.  Hopefully Connor will get more used to the new school and the drop off will get less depressing.

On the other hand, Logan is doing great in new school.  Stuart said that Logan was not clingy at all this morning; he followed the teacher to go say hi and play with his classmate.  When Stuart and I went to pick him up after school, he was playing alongside with Alex and Logan did not seem to want to leave yet.  The teacher told me that Logan talked with her today and told her that he missed mommy and daddy.  When one of the teachers asked for his name, he answered “Logi” (his nickname form the other school).  The only concern Stuart and I had from today was that Logan barely ate his lunch; his apple package was not even opened.  We will need to find out tomorrow if the kids are receiving any assistance in getting started on their lunches.

Logan had not mentioned about the old school since he left ‘last Friday, but we know that he must be missing his friends.  Last night when he and I were reading at bedtime, Logan was naming the characters in the book as each of us in the family, then he said one of them was Rohan and the other was Bar.  And this morning during their drive, out of the blue Logan asked Stuart if Rohan is at a new school too.  According to Vrinda (Rohan’s mom), Rohan did ok on the first day without Logan, but he was more quiet and told his mom that he did not see Logan all day.

Logan’s First Day of School

Logan did well at the first day of his new school.  When Stuart took Logan to school thimageis morning, Logan was quite excited, carrying his sleeping bag and leading Stuart to walk to his classroom.  Until Stuart reminded him that he needed to go to a different classroom in the morning before his regular teacher arrives, Logan changed his reaction.  He became worried and a little clingy then.  Stuart sat him down to play with some toys, and said a quick goodbye to Logan to avoid lingering.  The dropoff was definitely much better than what wimagee anticipated.

Shortly later in the morning, I received a text with a photo from Dee Dee.  When she dropped off Kasey to the morning classroom, they saw Logan there.  Logan was doing fine, but he did tell her that he wanted daddy.  This was the picture she showed me and it doesn’t look like he was quite in the swing of things yet.

After work at pick up, Logan was playing with Legos by himself when Stuart arrived at the classroom.  The teacher said Logan did well today, no crying, just a bit shy.  After Stuart got the update, Logan did not seem to want to leave just yet; he talked to Stuart about Legos.image  Logan was more chatty than usual.  He told Stuart about the music coming out from the monitor all day.  He talked about how silly the teacher was when she did not remember the alphabet letters; so everyone reminded her.  He also did mention about having some problems with sleeping on the sleeping bag, but Stuart and I did not quite understand what the issue was.  When we asked him if he played with his new friends, he said no and explained that “they broke my projects”.  Logan also showed us his first artwork from the school.  We finally have more than just explosions to look at now.  He told us that it was a drawing of Daddy and Mommy.

A Day at Gilroy Gardens

We returned to Gilroy Gardens today for the second time this season.  It was very busy there; by the time we arrived, the lines had formed for most of the rides.  We went for the boys’ favorite rides first, the antique car ride.  We rode the four seats one first, and it was interesting that Logan preferred to sit in the backseat with me and let daddy and Connor drove.  Then we rode the two seat version.  Connor drove with me and he enjoyed driving the whole time, except every time we went through the tunnels, he leaned toward me to hide.  One of the other things we rode was the monorail; I was excited that Connor made the 36 inch height minimum, so we got in line.  It was the longest wait we experienced at this park, but the boys enjoyed the tame ride.  In the afternoon, we were in search for ice cream, but poor Connor could not manage to stay awake and passed out in the stroller, so Logan and I had a chance to share the dippin’ dots together.  When we left the park, we all passed out in the car except the poor driver.

BBQ at Rohan’s

Rohan’s parents invited Bar’s family and us over for a BBQ, and they had a small bouncy house / water slide set up in their back yard too.  Logan and Connor were not interested in water play and rather stayed in the playroom in the house.  After some convincing, I changed both of them in swimsuits so they could join the other three kids.  Logan ended up playing with the water shooter for a little bit, but did not want to get wet on the slide.  Connor did not care to even get near the bouncy house.  Eventually all the kids migrated inside to the house to play with toys and later to watch a TV program.  The kids all played well and had fun.  Sometimes the three big kids, Bar, Rohan and Logan hung out together while Connor and Raz followed each other, then Connor might run around with Rohan and Logan while Bar played with her sister Raz.  The adults were able to sit, eat and chat outdoor while taking turns checking on the kids.  Connor liked to coimageme out to see us periodically; he would be bringing a toy with him each time, either a small Lego soldier, a huge toy gun, a car or a VTech reader.  It has been a week since Connor saw Raz; they must have missed each other as we witnessed them just sitting together to play and talk.  Rohan’s parents told us that they are worried how Rohan will do without Logan in school starting next week, as they’ve been school buddies since they were just babies.  The two of them enjoyed each others company so much that I found myself saying “Lohan” by mistake twice when referring to them.

It finally became quite dark outside so we had to wrap up the evening.  Logan asked if he could stay longer to play, and Rohan asked Logan if he could stay and have a sleepover; too bad that we had to break up their fun party for the night.

Bad Fish

I am quite superstitious about talking about the kids’ sleeps, and somehow Stuart and I had a conversation about that last night.  Stuart purposely messed around with me by saying how well Logan has been sleeping, and as a result, we had one of the worst ones with Logan last night.  We suspected that the salmon dinner might have been the cause of it as I was having some tummy aches last night before we went to bed too.  At 2am, I heard Logan crying in the bathroom with Stuart, so I got up to see what the commotion was about.  Stuart told me that Logan had called him over to the bedroom, then he threw up all over the bed.  Logan then complained of some tummy ache, so Stuart changed him and took him to the bathroom in case of any other outputs.  I stayed with Logan in the bathroom while Stuart cleaned up the bed.  Logan threw up a little more while I was with him.  Logan laid right back to sleep once the bed was made, so we returned to our room.  Shortly after, we heard Logan’s calls for help again; we went in and he threw up some more, on his pillow this time.  I changed his PJ again and his pillow.  By then, I decided to lay down with him, and had a bucket nearby just in case.  We both fell asleep, but unsure how long later, Logan stirred and I immediately got the bucket ready which he threw up into it just a little.  Another 10 minutes later, by then there was not much inside Logan, he threw up some clear liquid.  I had changed his PJ another time and brought in another pillow for us.  Fortunately that was the last of it.  It was 4am at that point, we both finally fell asleep until 7am when Logan said happily “The bunny is up” (referring to his bunny clock)

I was cautious in the morning with what Logan was allowed to eat.  Fortunately, he seemed to be fine and back to his usual self.  He proceeded to eat as well as usual for lunch without any complaints.  We decided it must have indeed been something he ate, so we were able to continue our plan for BBQ at Rohan’s in the late afternoon.

Orientation and Last Day

Logan visited his new school for the first time this morning.  We picked the 8am orientation to attend. image Logan was actually quite excited and was all jumpy entering the school.  We found out that Logan was assigned to one of the smallest Preschool 4 classes (four total classes); he will be one of only 7 kids with one teacher.  We were happy with that as Logan will probably be more comfortable to start with a smaller group.  When we entered his classroom, imageLogan said hi to the teacher and one of his classmates, Alex, and his father.  It did not take long before Logan and Alex started playing with the toys.  Logan seemed comfortable there while we chatted with the teacher.  We then were told to go to the parents orientation in the cafeteria, and Logan did not mind as we asked him to stay with the teacher and Alex.  When Stuart and I returned, the teacher told us that the boys had fun playing together and they had a conversation about Toy Story.  We stayed a bit longer so Logan could see and play at the outdoor playground.  As we were leaving, Logan even asked the teacher if she would come along to his old school.  I guess Logan had bonded with her; hopefully the first day of school next week will go as well as today did.image

Logan and I arrived at school in time for the Friday performance which was a puppet show.  I was happy that Logan would be able to watch his last show there, plus it would distract him enough not to be too clingy with me, and it worked.

At the end of the day when I picked up Logan, he was in a happy mood.  The teachers told me that Logan had received many goodbye hugs today.  In addition to that, Logan had a little injury to mark the last day just like Connor did.  According to the teacher, Logan got pushed in the courtyard by one of his friends and skinned his knee and elbow; he was sad for an entire hour.  The knee part looked sort of bad, but Logan did not whine at all when he was showing me the owies.  We took a few more pictures and said our final goodbyes, and stepped away from the school that Logan had attended for more than 3 and a half years.
